The Power of Midweek Beach Days (& Co-Regulation)
I recently spent two midweek nights at Stinson Beach here in Northern California – one of my favorite places in the world – with two dear friends.
Our intention was to each have the space to drop into our individual creative work, but near one another, drafting off each other's inspired energy.
Cradled in this magical place by ocean, rolling green hills and lagoon – spacious water, Earth and sky all around – we connected over sunrise coffee, dove deep on long beach walks, and belly laughed our way through hot tub sessions and fresh bread and pesto meals.
When one of us felt inspired, we would slip away to a quiet corner to catch that flow, no questions asked. We reconnected organically when the time felt right.
I used to view days away like these as separate from “work”. It felt like to really focus, I needed to silo myself.
But these days, when our sense of global steadiness feels so shaky, we need co-regulation more than ever.
Time spent with people we feel good and safe with and spent in natural settings that feel grounding and nourishing is co-regulating.
Those “just feel good in your body” people and places help your system return to its natural rhythm and pace – gentle, steady.
The intensity of the world is too much for our individual systems to hold on their own, but not too much for the ecosystem to hold collectively.
There's enough space for it all to move through the universe at large.
We can lighten our individual load by regularly placing ourselves within spaces where our systems feel safe to soften and settle.
Where our minds are given time to rest.
Where our bodies are allowed a pause within which integration and recovery naturally occur.
Whose energy are you feeling good to be around these days?
What places in nature feel particularly resourcing or nourishing for you right now?
What spaces and communities are leaving you feeling replenished, calm, energized or inspired in your current life?
Lean into those connections and spaces. Let yourself feel buoyed.
You don't need to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders alone. In fact, you can't.
Lots of Love,
Melissa
